Fifth Embryo Transfer Experiment was Undertaken at NIAS Conservation Center, Thuy Phuong on 13 March, 2019

Fifth embryo transfer (ET) experiment was undertaken at NIAS Conservation Center, Thuy Phuong on 13 March 2019. This time, the Project team used Ban oocytes and Ban sperm to produce zygotes at VNUA. Three landrace sows were prepared with estrus synchronization, of which two received surgical transfer.

For the first time, inhaling anesthesia[1] was used for the surgical procedures. The effect of inhaling anesthesia is very stable, as it can control the level of sleep. As such, it made the whole procedures much easier both for the Project team as well as for the recipient sows.

This is the fifth time embryo transfer carried out jointly by the Japanese and Vietnamese teams. By now, the Vietnamese team has acquired a competitive level in undertaking the whole procedures from the beginning till the end.

The Project will carry out the next experiment in June 2019.

[1] Inhaling anesthesia is a widely used method of anesthesia outside Vietnam, but its use is not yet practiced in Vietnam. The Project was granted permission from the Vietnamese Government authority for use within the framework of the Project.
